ScotBoard is Scotland's very own community noticeboard — no tracking, no algorithms, no cookies, built by Scots for Scots. Buy, sell, trade, connect, find work, discover events, and grow your business across all 32 council areas. Nae fashious moderation, nae burach, nae heid bummers — just Scots doing what Scots do best.
Oor Story
The act of selling what you do, hone, or own to survive is as old as time. Yet, we are not all skilled or lucky enough to run a lucrative corporate venture. As a people, we have weathered great hardship, invasion, demonetisation, and persecution. Consequently, our roots are deeply tied to a historical spirit of frugality — scrimping, scraping, and resourcefully trading to get by.
Historically, the Scarters and Clauters scratched together bric-a-brac, and anyone scraping a living from disparate pieces was known as a Scart-the-bowl or a Claut-the-creel. Cadgers were travelling hawkers who survived by bartering and selling whatever odds and ends they could lay their hands on to make a small living. Hucksters dealt strictly in secondhand, low-value items to earn emergency bread. Even the Barra-men and Barra-women—who gave rise to the legendary "Barras" in Glasgow's East End—earned their moniker from struggling locals who wheeled their personal belongings out in wheelbarras to sell for survival cash.
For ScotBoard, I have coined a new and modern noun, free from disparaging history, and for whom a classifieds board is prime turf: the Silleryin.
In older Scottish dialects, the word siller explicitly means silver, money, or wealth. The yin is the individual. I define this moniker as a rugged, resourceful individual adept at earning coin during an economic downturn. It implies a person skillfully crafting a sustainable income out of whatever they have available, framing them as an adventurous survivor doing whatever it takes to weather a tough financial storm and support their family.
But whether you identify as a Silleryin gallantly bringing home the bacon, a businessperson, a creator, a farmer, a mechanic, a journeyman, or anything whatsoever — this site is for all walks of Scottish life. It provides a simple, safe, and dignified marketplace for us, the Scottish people.
ScotBoard is the first dedicated online market for Scots, and the last word in establishing a truly Scottish free-market economy.

The first 100 listings on ScotBoard are completely free. I believe in giving the community a chance to grow organically. Once we hit 100 active listings, new posts will cost £1 per listing per month — a small, fair contribution to keep Scotland's board running. Identity Verification is available for £1 one-time, giving you a verified badge that builds trust with other members.
