This listing is posted from Perth and Kinross — where the Carse of Gowrie once fed Scotland with fruit and vegetables, and where walled gardens still coax peaches and figs against south-facing stone. But Gardening belongs to all of Scotland. The polytunnels of the Western Isles, the allotments of Glasgow's south side, the market gardens of Fife, the croft kale patches of Sutherland, the dahlia beds of Aberdeen — every council area has soil worth working and people worth knowing.

Scotland's light is low and late, the season is short, and the wind comes off the Atlantic like it has a grudge. None of that stops us. The best tatties in the world grow here. The best soft fruit. A few house rules
